Going to the hairdresser's, this is a gesture a priori very innocuous. And yet ... Dave Tyler, a 45-year-old Briton living in Brighton (UK) almost died in 2011.

Two days after being styled in the salon, the forty-year-old was indeed victim of the "beauty salon syndrome", in other words of a stroke caused by extreme pressure on the neck during the passage in the shampoo box.

It was this pressure that damaged one of his arteries and resulted in the formation of a blood clot that then lodged in his brain.

Stroke and severe after-effects

According to The Guardian , at the time the man was rushed to the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery in London and was saved.

However, Dave Tyler still has serious consequences following his accident, despite three months of convalescence spent in hospital.

As a result, he has difficulty moving without his cane, is prone to speech problems, poor muscle coordination, and has suffered a partial loss of sensation of pain and perception of temperature. Finally, he can no longer drive because he suffers from visual disturbances.

More than 100,000 euros in compensation paid by the hairdressing salon

As a result of his misfortune, fortunately extremely rare, the man asked for compensation.

He has just been successful: the hair salon responsible for his stroke has agreed to compensate him for £ 90,000 (nearly € 108,000).

Beauty salon syndrome: a rare case but not new

This is not the first time that the beauty salon syndrome hits.

Unknown because very rare, this incident had already made a victim in January 2014 in San Diego (United States), and another fourteen years earlier in Poole (England).
