Summer and winter, our plants need to be maintained, pampered, and above all, they need water. Whether in the garden or on the balcony, we take care to give them the right amount of water and apply the following techniques to save resources.

Tip 1: I water in the evening rather than in the middle of the day

It seems rather obvious to seasoned gardeners and yet ... we do not always have this reflex! If you water at night, the water will tend to evaporate less and so it will get better in the ground . And in addition, during hot weather, it avoids us to go around the garden under 35 ° C!

Tip 2: I recover rainwater

Without necessarily being equipped with a water recovery system. When it rains, leave the watering can outside and let it fill itself .

Tip 3: I recycle kitchen water

Boiled vegetables, cooking pasta, sparkling water without bubbles ... We do not throw them in the sink anymore! Let them cool , then water the plants with.

Tip 4: I prefer the plants of my region

This little cactus has been watching me for a while ... but will he be comfortable with me? Planting plants in the region will make it easier to adapt to changes in temperature and rainfall . To find out which plants to select, we find information in books, or we take a look at the gardens and balconies of our neighbors. The cactus? We keep the idea, but we put it in our decor.

Tip 5: I convert coffee filters and diapers

Yes, seriously! Coffee filters are used for small pots of flowers, so water will flow less quickly and the plant will be able to take the time to drink it when it needs it. For large pots, a diaper is placed in the bottom. It will absorb the water and the plant will be able to draw on this reserve if necessary.

Tip # 6: I water my empty plastic pots

In the midst of the crops, empty plastic pots, pierced at the bottom, are buried and filled every time you want to water, instead of irrigating the plant. With this technique, the water is directly in contact with the root, it can flow as and when, and we do not waste water that has remained on the surface.
