The tie and dye is dead, long live the deep dye!

For Ludovic Geheniaux * , expert colorist, the tie and dye as we knew him at the height of his popularity in 2010 - ultra-faded blonde tips and XXL root effect - has disappeared. Or rather, it has changed. From now on, we do not look for the very marked rock'n'roll break of the tie and dye, but a melted effect - as with a sombré hair.

The idea? Give her hair a sunburn effect. For this, the colorist now offers what he calls a deep dye. The technique consists in determining with the client the desired effect, to know how far one discolours. Then, we re-color the tips. Trendy colors? Pastel hair, gray hair or cold blond, even white.

How to make a tie and dye?

The recipe that made the success of tie and dye remains the same today. The root effect is always present. Darker in root, the hair tends to thin in the lengths then on the ends. Ludovic Geheniaux notes that some women want a tie and dye in "one shot", ie ephemeral. This is the advantage of this technique of (de) coloring: we can discolor the tips then, if we get tired, we simply push back and then cut the tips to find its natural color.

To wear the tie and dye, you must of course have long or medium hair. A naturally supple effect, or spontaneous ripples will enhance the sunburn effect of the color.

A coloring technique that requires little maintenance

On the maintenance side, the tie and dye - or the deep dye - requires a little attention. The only thing to watch out for: as it fades - even if the techniques are now gentle - the tips will require better hydration. For Ludovic Geheniaux, the winning association is that of a repair product (Olaplex type at Eugene Perma) and a care with keratin , which in addition to hydrate perfectly, will rebuild the damaged hair . So, we can have fun and dare the deep dye without guilt.

The tie and dye, a beloved trend of stars

Jessica Biel, Miss Agnes, Cameron Diaz ... they all adopted it. Some have even sported it for a long time, like the bubbly Daphne Bürki, before finally ending up with a slimmer melted effect.

Each chose a custom tie and dye: when Drew Barrymore thoroughly played the contrast between root and spikes, others like Jessica Biel preferred subtlety. On the other hand, all were able to adopt the tie and dye for a most successful look. We never tire of plunging into these hairy hairy memories.
